Minecraft is getting its first new dimension in 14 years

Confirmed at Minecraft LIVE in September 2026, The Sift arrives in Minecraft in 2027 as the game's fourth official dimension, joining the Overworld, the Nether, and The End. According to Xbox Wire, it marks the first new dimension added to the game in over 14 years.

The dimension was initially announced for Minecraft Dungeons II, launching on September 29. As revealed at the event, The Sift will follow to the base game, offering players a new environment to explore, survive, and build within.

Per GameSpot, Minecraft Dungeons II creative director Mans Olson explained that the team ensured The Sift felt distinct from the Nether and The End rather than becoming another hostile space. "We wanted to make sure that it was different. That it doesn't feel like the ones that already exist in the game," he stated.

The last dimension added to Minecraft was The End in 2011, when the game reached version 1.0. The addition of The Sift represents a major expansion after more than a decade without new explorable realms.
