Frictional Games has announced that Ontos, its upcoming title, is being delayed to 2027. The game was originally scheduled to launch later in 2025 following its debut at The Game Awards in December last year.
The Swedish studio behind the acclaimed Amnesia: The Dark Descent and SOMA says the delay is necessary to deliver the full vision of the project. "Ontos is our most ambitious game to date, both in terms of its size and scale, and in the depth and layers of our story and gameplay," Frictional Games said in an official statement.
The psychological thriller was revealed at The Game Awards 2024 and had generated anticipation among fans of the developer. The decision to delay underscores the studio's commitment to not making compromises in its design.
Frictional Games said it will share more updates about Ontos, its characters, and gameplay details in the coming months.
