Games Done Quick canceled a sponsored stream with SNK during Summer Games Done Quick 2026, a speedrunning event that had raised $2.4 million for Doctors Without Borders. According to Eurogamer, the organization announced via Bluesky a partnership with the Metal Slug developer to celebrate the franchise's 30th anniversary, but shut down the broadcast just two hours after it began.
The decision came after viewers raised concerns about SNK being majority-controlled by the MiSK Foundation, which is owned by Saudi Arabia's crown prince Mohammad bin Salman, as reported by PC Gamer. The Japanese developer received this investment in 2022.
During the Twitch broadcast, host Ateatree announced that Games Done Quick had decided to postpone the remaining runs due to "ongoing concerns and statements from people watching." According to Rock Paper Shotgun, the organization apologized, describing the sponsorship as "an oversight we deeply regret" and acknowledging they "failed to conduct the level of review" needed to assess the deal properly.
The 2026 event maintained its overall fundraising total of around $2.4 million for charity, reflecting consistent numbers with previous Summer Games Done Quick editions, as Eurogamer noted.
