According to Nintendo's official support site, the original Switch models will be discontinued in Europe starting mid-February 2027. The move affects Switch, Switch Lite, and Switch OLED, with the Nintendo Store also ceasing sales of these versions in European markets during the same period.
The discontinuation stems from new European Union regulations requiring electronic devices to allow users to replace batteries themselves. In response, Nintendo will begin rolling out Switch 2 and certain controllers with replaceable batteries across Europe starting summer 2026. The original models will still be manufactured throughout 2026, though some compliant controllers may not reach shelves until early 2027.
While the original Switch approaches its tenth anniversary in 2027, it will continue in active production in other regions outside Europe for now. Nintendo has not indicated when it plans to discontinue the console in North America or other markets.
