Newly discovered footage from a FromSoftware internal presentation held in May 2007 reveals that Demon's Souls once included a first-person camera mode, according to findings shared by researcher Lance McDonald. The material was shown at Gameshare 4, an internal Sony Computer Entertainment event, nearly two years before the game's original launch in Japan.
The PowerPoint presentation, created by Japan Studio in 2007, included early gameplay footage where the first-person perspective appears in select sequences. According to the materials, this appeared to be an optional mode players could toggle during play, mirroring functionality in King's Field, FromSoftware's 1994 spiritual predecessor that served as the true grandfather to the Dark Souls series.
Beyond the abandoned camera option, the prototype shows other notable differences from the final release, including unused enemy designs and adjustments to the third-person camera system. The presentation also lists the game's working title simply as Demon's Souls, a name maintained throughout development until its commercial launch.
This represents one of the earliest gameplay records of the title in action, providing rare insight into the creative process behind one of FromSoftware's most influential works, a pivotal title between King's Field and the Dark Souls franchise.
