Game Science has released a 15-minute gameplay trailer for Black Myth: Zhong Kui, the second action RPG in its Chinese mythology series. According to IGN, the video features the new protagonist in action, detailed combat mechanics, and an impressive parry sequence.
The gameplay opens with a serene seaside setting where the protagonist arrives on a beach, enters a cave, and encounters an elderly man. The two attempt to build a raft to escape the shoreline, but a towering wave disrupts their plan. Combat is then demonstrated as the protagonist carries the old man while fighting off ghostly enemies using sword strikes and defeating a larger foe that ignites its weapon with fire, showcasing parry and counterattack mechanics.
Announced just over a year ago at Gamescom, Black Myth: Zhong Kui was initially described as a very early-stage project. According to GamesRadar, this surprise gameplay reveal just 12 months after announcement caught the community off guard, especially given the project's stated embryonic state when first confirmed.
The new protagonist visually distinguishes itself from Wukong, the original game's main character, featuring accelerated combat pacing, unique summons, and a different weapon approach. The Black Myth franchise continues building on the foundation established by Wukong's 2024 success.
