Silent Hill: Townfall launched on September 24 for PlayStation 5 and PC. Developed by Screen Burn, it marks the series' first complete first-person experience, setting it apart from previous entries like Silent Hill 4: The Room (PS2, 2004) and Silent Hill: The Short Message (PS5, 2024) which featured only glimpses of the perspective.
The game takes place on the fictional Scottish island of St. Amelia rather than the iconic town of Silent Hill. According to Eurogamer, Townfall represents "an inversion, subversion, and evolution" of the nearly three-decade survival horror series, charting "its own idiosyncratic path" while remaining distinctly Silent Hill. The narrative follows three protagonists: Simon Ordell, Zoe Ellis (a nurse), and Richard, each confronting their own fears and psychological trauma manifested through creatures and a hostile environment.
Initial reviews position the game between 81 and 82 points on Metacritic and OpenCritic respectively. According to IGN, players can complete the campaign in 12 to 15 hours depending on playstyle, with multiple unlockable endings.
The launch follows Konami's commitment to releasing a franchise entry annually, reinforcing the publisher's strategy of expanding Silent Hill through international creative collaborators and new narrative contexts.
