It's official: Diablo 5 was announced during the franchise's 30th anniversary segment at BlizzCon 2026 this weekend, with a spring 2029 release window. According to Nintendo Life, Blizzard closed out the celebration with the announcement of the next major entry in the action RPG series, unveiling the teaser "Sanctuary Falls".
The BlizzCon event also shared first details through a dedicated panel. Per GamesRadar, the confirmed classes include the returning Demon Hunter and Monk, alongside the Plague Knight, a completely new class to the franchise. Game Director Joe Shely described the Plague Knight as a "heavily armored class" and a "walking death" that roams the world "spreading disease and consuming it for power."
According to Shacknews, the "Diablo 5: Forging the Next Era" panel also covered changes to the loot system. Blizzard has not yet confirmed platforms or a specific release date beyond the spring 2029 window, but players can sign up on the official Diablo website for future updates.
The announcement comes weeks after Blizzard confirmed Diablo IV: Age of Hatred Collection for Nintendo Switch 2, bringing the franchise to the hybrid console. Diablo 5 represents the next major chapter with more classes than ever before, according to the developers.
