The 34 workers fired by Rockstar Games in December have asked the public not to boycott Grand Theft Auto 6, due in November. According to IGN and GamesRadar, the group, represented by the Independent Workers' Union of Great Britain (IWGB), launched a merchandise line with proceeds going toward legal costs in their case against the company.
Rockstar claimed the dismissed employees (31 in the UK and 3 in Canada) were let go for leaking game assets on Discord, not for union activity. The workers dispute this and remain engaged in legal proceedings, with a final hearing scheduled for September in Glasgow.
In a statement to GamesRadar, a representative of the former developers said: "We spent years pouring our hard work, skill, and creativity into making GTA, and we want people to experience the universe that we helped build." Another added: "Win justice for the people who helped make it."
The move comes weeks before GTA 6's "Extended Look" scheduled for Netflix and the game's launch. Pre-orders have already recouped production costs, according to earlier reporting by industry outlets.
