Grand Theft Auto 6 will include explicit sex scenes, according to the game's age rating on the PlayStation Store in regions like New Zealand and Australia. It marks the first time the franchise has presented this type of content directly, unlike the controversial Hot Coffee incident in GTA: San Andreas.
Rockstar Games is also saturating the game with cultural references. A newly shared screenshot shows visual parallels to the opening scene of Quentin Tarantino's 1994 film Pulp Fiction, suggesting protagonists Lucia and Jason are about to commit a crime, much like the characters in Tarantino's work.
According to Rupert Humphries, Rockstar's senior VP of narrative, the world of GTA 6 was designed to be "more over the top, more insane, more in your face" than reality. "If you are going to put all this effort into creating a version of today's world, it has to be more over the top, more insane, more in your face," he told Love Magazine. "Otherwise, you could just go outside and live in the real world."
The game depicts two criminals pursuing fame and fortune through a narrative bookended by shootouts, car chases, and explosions. The narrative aims to reflect and amplify the current state of the world through this satirical and extreme approach.
