Valve has notified European customers of a data breach involving CEVA Logistics, the company that distributes Valve hardware across Europe. According to IGN, hackers accessed the partner's systems and likely obtained names, addresses, phone numbers, and emails from recent buyers of Steam Machine, Steam Controller, and Steam Deck within the past three months.
Polygon reports that CEVA Logistics informed Valve of the attack on August 7. The company states that delivery-related information shared with the partner was the probable target of the attackers. Passwords and payment details were not compromised, according to Valve's statement.
Eurogamer notes that Valve is advising customers to "expect fake messages," warning of potential fraud attempts using the stolen information. The company confirmed that its own servers remained secure during the incident.
The breach affects only European customers who purchased the hardware within the past 90 days. Valve recommends that affected customers remain vigilant against suspicious emails and messages that may attempt to exploit the exposed data.
