The Chimera Tank battle stands as one of the most striking early sequences in Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, where V and President Myers face off against a massive, Ghost in the Shell-inspired spider-tank within a Barghest facility. According to PC Gamer, game director Gabe Amatangelo and creative director Igor Sarzyński disclosed on CD Projekt Red's official AnsweRED podcast that the encounter served as a convergence point across multiple development disciplines.
The sequence's complexity demanded repeated iteration on both design and execution. As the developers explained, the Chimera Tank functioned as a nexus connecting various teams including design, art, cinematography, and audio, significantly expanding the scope of work required.
This insight emerged as part of a broader retrospective on Phantom Liberty's development. According to GamesRadar, the studio restructured its production approach compared to the base game, transitioning from a waterfall-adjacent model with decisions concentrated among leads and directors to multidisciplinary collaborative pods. That shift proved essential in allowing the expansion to sidestep the launch troubles that plagued the original Cyberpunk 2077.
