Hideo Kojima gave his first public interviews following Physint's exit from PlayStation in June, when Sony canceled the project during a Zoom call. According to IGN, Kojima was shocked by the decision and his mind "went blank" during the meeting. The action-espionage game, regarded as a spiritual successor to Metal Gear Solid, is now published by Xbox after months of negotiations.
In statements to The Washington Post and IGN, Kojima said Physint is still in "experimentation" phase and he has not decided which engine will be used. There was speculation that he considered using Decima, the engine behind Death Stranding, but since the engine is owned by Sony through Guerrilla Games, that option became unlikely after the split.
Kojima also stated he remains unsure whether Physint will ever reach PS6 in the future. According to Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier, cited by Push Square, Sony and Kojima negotiated for months before the rupture. PlayStation cited concerns over budget, profitability, and exclusivity as reasons for stepping away from the project.
Despite the technical uncertainty, Kojima declared that he believes Physint will be his best-selling title of all time. The game's exclusivity on Xbox, however, will be decided by the company, not the director. Kojima Productions also asked fans to question Schreier's account of the reasons behind the exit.
