According to IGN and confirmed by multiple outlets, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is implementing a quality-of-life change to double XP tokens that players have requested for years.
In the current series, activating a double XP token starts the timer counting down regardless of whether you're in a match. This wastes valuable bonus time while waiting for matchmaking, sitting in lobbies, or navigating menus where no XP can actually be earned.
Starting with Modern Warfare 4's launch, double XP tokens will only decrement while you're actively in a match. Existing tokens will also be usable in the new game. The change affects tokens that typically last anywhere from 15 minutes to one hour, allowing players to get full value from their bonuses.
This is one of several improvements announced by Infinity Ward for launch. The developer recently also confirmed a toggle to display only Modern Warfare 4 operators in Warzone, filtering out extravagant crossover skins from the experience.
