Microsoft has rolled out an update for Xbox Insiders that brings multiple new features to Series X|S consoles, including Gamertag changes and, most notably, a feature that solves one of players' biggest frustrations: being unable to play while large updates download.
According to Xbox Wire, the new feature works like this: if a game is part of the Game Pass catalog and you hold an active subscription, you can now launch it via cloud gaming and keep playing while the update transfers to your console in the background. The solution is particularly useful for high-fidelity AAA titles, which often have downloads that take hours to complete.
This has been a persistent issue on both current-generation consoles. Now, players with sufficient internet bandwidth to support cloud streaming gain a practical alternative during those waiting periods. The feature is arriving to Insiders first in a testing phase before a potential wider rollout.
