Heroes of the Storm gets first hero in 6 years

Announced during BlizzCon 2026's opening ceremony, Heroes of the Storm is receiving its first new hero since 2020. Xal'atath, the Harbinger of the Void and primary antagonist of World of Warcraft's Midnight expansion, is coming to the Nexus as a new ranged assassin.

According to IGN and GameSpot, the hero joins the Public Test Realm on September 14, with a full release on September 28. The announcement marks a substantial content return after Blizzard moved the MOBA to maintenance mode in 2022, when it began receiving only balance adjustments and bug fixes. Hogger, released in 2020, was the last hero added to the game.

Per PC Gamer, this is the first truly significant update since 2022. Blizzard has also hinted that another character could be added in the future, suggesting the game may emerge from its prolonged dormancy.

Xal'atath is a central character in World of Warcraft's ongoing narrative, with BlizzCon revealing new cinematics about her objectives within the MMORPG's story.
