The narrative follows Makoto Daito, a man born to an American father and Japanese mother, embarking on a 50-year odyssey across five cities searching for a place to belong.
The story begins in 1915, when Daito escapes severe discrimination in the United States and secretly boards a vessel departing from San Francisco to reach Japan, his mother's homeland. Throughout his journey, he encounters figures including his close friend Shinjo and other individuals whose paths cross his own, each carrying their own ambitions, convictions, and histories.
