The Dark Arisen expansion for Dragon's Dogma 2 launched the week of October 8 on all platforms: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Switch 2. According to IGN, the content is not as transformational as the first Dark Arisen (the 2012 original game's expansion), primarily because incremental patches have already addressed many of the base 2024 game's technical issues. However, the expansion still "flies in the same ambitious skies as its predecessor," advancing the story and world design.
Critics received the launch well. Nintendo Life highlighted that the Switch 2 version is in "excellent shape," while Push Square called the expansion "peak Dragon's Dogma," praising director Kento Kinoshita, who also helmed the first Dark Arisen.
The expansion includes new stories, progression mechanics, and features voice work from actor Ron Perlman, known for his narration in Fallout, providing content narration for the game. According to GamesRadar, Perlman reunites with Capcom after appearing in the 2020 Monster Hunter film.
