Grand Theft Auto 5 has surpassed 230 million copies sold in total since its 2013 launch, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick announced during the company's financial results presentation on August 7.
"The Grand Theft Auto series once again exceeded expectations, and to date, Grand Theft Auto 5 has sold over 230 million units worldwide," Zelnick told investors. The executive also noted that recurrent consumer spending for the series grew 3% and GTA Plus continues to thrive, driven by new content offerings including the Rockstar Mission Creator, a suite of tools that empowers players to create custom missions.
For context, this means GTA 5 sells more copies annually than most games manage across their entire lifetime. The title remains a financial engine for the publisher even as Grand Theft Auto 6 enters pre-order phase ahead of its November 19 release date.
