Battlefield 2042 went through a confusing cycle of changes this week. The 1.3.3 update, released on June 30, featured an in-game message announcing that XP Boosts would now count down only during active matches instead of in real time. The change was well received by players, as it would prevent wasting boosters while waiting for matchmaking or game loading.
However, Battlefield Studios quickly reverted the change, calling it an error. The confusing part is that this same mishap already happened earlier in the month. In early June, the XP Booster description was accidentally modified with the same text, and the studio promised to correct only the description in a future update.
According to PC Gamer, the pattern of missteps left the community bewildered. Players had been requesting this change for years, and twice EA found itself in the position of implementing it, yet both times chose to revert it, squandering an opportunity for positive PR and addressing one of the most requested improvements from the playerbase.
The June 30 update also included an overhaul of the game's gunplay system and introduced new game modes.
