It's official: Halo: Campaign Evolved, a full remake of the 2001 original, launches in July for Xbox Series X|S, PC, and PS5 — marking Halo's debut on PlayStation hardware. According to Summer Game Fest coverage, the game can be played entirely in third-person perspective, a camera option designed especially for players familiar with over-the-shoulder shooters.
Beyond the Unreal Engine 5 campaign remaster, Halo Studios created a set of new prologue missions that deepen the dynamic between Master Chief and Sgt. Johnson. Speaking to GameSpot, the developers said these additions aim to give context and backstory to the characters' relationship, which the original game left largely unexplored.
Reactions from outlets that played two remastered levels — "Assault on the Control Room" and "The Silent Cartographer" — were divided. Eurogamer praised aspects of the modernization, while GameSpot criticized the remake for feeling generic, stripping away what made the first Halo unique. Brazilian outlet Adrenaline similarly reported that hands-on time raised concerns about the final product.
On PS5, the game will ship on disc but requires a content download before launching — a standard practice for current-generation releases.
