Gears of War: E-Day launched worldwide today, as confirmed by Xbox Wire. The game is available on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, Game Pass and Steam, bringing one of Xbox's most iconic sagas back to where it all began. The narrative centers on the opening hours of Emergence Day, the catastrophic event that forever changed the world of Sera.
The launch follows weeks of early access, during which The Coalition identified and patched multiple stability and performance issues. According to GameSpot, the studio released updates focused on correcting critical errors across all modes (campaign, multiplayer and Horde Siege), including a fix for a split-screen issue internally nicknamed the "Bilefrog-Kalona" error.
On Xbox Series S, which has less RAM than Series X, The Coalition managed to maintain similar visual fidelity through a creative technical approach. According to technical director Kate Rayner, the studio leveraged the console's SSD to store information about scenarios and cities, compensating for the hardware's memory limitations.
Specialized reviews highlight solid campaign gameplay with refined combat and renewed gore, though some outlets noted inconsistent pacing. Destructoid emphasized that E-Day marks a strong franchise comeback after previous entries had alienated fans, while Pure Xbox particularly praised the Versus and Horde Siege modes.
